May 16, 2018 20

NSBM staff completed a 3 part Practical Training Course on Laboratory Analytical Techniques for Food Microbiologyon Friday last 2nd December 2016. The on-the-job training programme was delivered by a Senior International Laboratory Specialist  under Component 2  of the EU funded Trade and Private Sector Development  (TPSD) Project. The training included methods for the microbiological examination of food and beverages; drinking and bottled water   and t for the detection and enumeration of Enterobacteriacea and use of confirmatory methods for coliforms, E.coli, & Enterobacteriacea. This strengthens NSBM’s capacity to provide microbiological laboratory testing services to the food processing sector for quality control and quality assurance and to the regulatory authorities for official controls. Microbiological contamination of foodstuffs and food products is one of the main causes of food borne disease outbreaks in developed and developing countries. Strengthening laboratory testing capacity in this area will enable the food processors and regulatory authorities reduce this food safety risk to consumers and enhance the food safety and food quality reputation of the Nepalese food chain. A follow training course in planned for March / April 2017 to strengthen capacity on the implementation of quality management systems to meet the quality management requirements for accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 ‘General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories’.
