The Department of Food Technology & Quality Control (DFTQC), Ministry of Agriculture & Livestock Development (MoALD) held the first of series of public awareness workshops on its new ‘Mill & Dairy Products Safety Directive 2075’ in Biratnagar on November 01 2018. The objective of the new Directive is to increase product quality, food safety and consumer protection in the dairy sector in Nepal. The directive is designed to ensure the implement by dairy processors of production process procedures approximated to good manufacturing practise (GMP) in the dairy sector. The directive includes guidelines for the implementation of these procedures developed with the support of the EU TPSD Project as a part of the Pilot Program for implementation of GMP in 6 dairy processors in the Kathmandu valley which was carried out in 2016-17. The directive is approximated to EU and Indian food safety regulations on dairy products and will help increase export market access for Nepalese milk and dairy products.

The workshop was opened by DG Sanjeev Kumar Karn and  attended by 125 persons involved in the dairy sector in Biratnagar and the surrounding region.
